Thinking Small

I started the underpainting on the first sketch.

Blocking in the hands.

The canvas panels for these studies are only 7x9” and I am finding it an interesting challenge to paint so small. The brush I am using is a #00 liner which feels tiny even in my small hands. The benefit though, is that the work moves along much faster than on a larger canvas.

Thinking Big
Small is easy to digest, but large has no limit. Brad Huston at the Broken Messenger provides has an interesting take on the vastness of God and how it relates to our own place in creation.

Contemplating the vastness of God, the expanse of His love for us, the awesome qualities He possesses, His mighty strength and His unknowable wisdom, teaches us to revere His Name and it teaches us to humble ourselves when we draw near Him.
By thinking too small, we place God in our pocket; limited by our own limitations.
