Relief, Release

In the wake of disaster, there is great need. In the Gulf Coast, people have lost everything: homes, family, jobs, everything. When the waters subside, it is likely there will be nothing to return to. As a country, we have mobilized to offer support and supplies; but as Christians, we need to offer more. When we give a drink, it should be of living water.

Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water." "Sir," the woman said, "you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his flocks and herds?" Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." (John 4:10-14 NIV)
Without the message of Christ and the water that subsides all thirst, any aid will be temporary. It is a time of questions, frustration and faith; for only by faith can we be encouraged to find joy through the suffering.

I challenge myself to find an opportunity to serve; not only in relief, but release from eternal thirst. I challenge you as well. Please let me know what you find.
